Visit Independence Rock

Experience one of the great symbols of frontier spirit with a visit to Independence Rock.

More than 150 years ago, emigrants were forging West toward the the promise of a new, brighter future. Along the way, many stopped in Central Wyoming at a large granite formation located about 50 miles southwest of Casper. As a testament to their journey, they carved their names into a behemoth rock that stands 136 feet tall and covers 24.81 acres. This incredible structure is now known as Independence Rock.

Take an afternoon visit to remember the fortitude and sacrifice of those who believed in the dream of a better future. And who knows? Maybe you’ll find a few of your ancestors’ names. Catch a preview of the breath-taking scenery with this video
