Jimmy Keith & the Hateful Eight
Playing Southern Blues Rock…the way it was meant to be played.
Jimmy Keith, born and raised in Alabama, was a child of the 60’s. He started playing guitar at 10 years old with just the basics until his teens when he became heavily influenced by Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee of Ten Years After and most of the British blues guitar players of the era. He later joined the Navy in 1980 and was stationed in Jacksonville, FL where Southern Rock was born, which began to influence his sound. After 8 years in the Navy, he returned home to Birmingham where he would form an acoustic duo with a long time friend. He then moved on to a power trio, which became his preferred setup for future music endeavors. Local blues artists had a heavy impact on his playing style along with a few famous guitarists such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert Collins, Albert King and Jimi Hendrix.
He considers himself a “meat and potatoes” style guitar player, not too fast and not too slow, but with a lot of tone and feeling. The songs he chooses to play have a good mixture of meaningful lyrics and soulful sound. His current band, Jimmy Keith & The Hateful Eight includes himself, Buffalo, WY Native Kevin Coleman on drums, and Austin, TX Native, Brad Tiffany on bass, who now lives in Sheridan.
