Studio City Mesa’s Cooper Theatre hosts Cinerama presentations Sept. 8-10

Before there was virtual reality, IMAX or 3D, there was Cinerama. And for one special weekend, Wyomovies is bringing back this then revolutionary technology for its 65th anniversary with screenings of Cinerama documentaries and two classic films in the format.
Cinerama was movie-goers first real immersion into films. First introduced in the 1950s, Cinerama movies were shot with three cameras and shown with three projectors onto a deeply curved screen with a high-quality, surround sound system, collectively creating an engrossing
and lifelike experience unlike anything audiences had ever seen. Though abandoned in 1962 because of its high costs, the Cinerama process still brings back fond memories to millions of baby boomers of sweeping aerials, documentary style world travel films, thrilling roller coaster rides and other simulated virtual reality experiences designed to lift the audience out of their seats and into the action.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10, the Cooper at Studio City Mesa will host exclusive daily special Cinerama presentations featuring two distinguished guests. Famed Cinerama restorationists David Strohmaier and Randy Gitsch will be introducing Seven Wonders of
the World, Cinerama Adventure and This Is Cinerama as well as discussing the revolutionary format. Here’s the full schedule:
